The Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities (IASH) of SYSU is a university-level academic research entity focusing on fundamental disciplines of humanities and social sciences. The Institute is committed to promoting interdisciplinary research of education, advancing exchanges and cooperation both at home and abroad, and facilitating the training of high-level talents of the university.
Through its Visiting Scholar Program, the IASH attracts established and promising young scholars from all corners of the world. The Institute has organized numbers of academic events, including Yat-sen IASH Lecture Series, Yat-sen IASH Forum, Yat-sen IASH Workshop, Yat-sen IASH Honors Program, Yat-sen Kangle Gathering, Reading Group, and Field Work. Through these events, IASH explores the fundamentals and frontier fields of disciplines, drives robust academic discourse, promotes interdisciplinary research and education, and explores different pedagogical approaches while pursuing the best pedagogical practices, working together with other academic disciplines to create a conducive environment for the cultivating of interdisciplinary talent.
The 2023 Fall Semester Visiting Scholar Program of IASH is to invite 10-12 visiting scholars. The Institute will provide visiting scholars with excellent working and living conditions, and sufficient academic resources to conduct academic activities.
Position Types for Visiting Scholars
IASH has three types of positions for visiting scholars, which are Advanced Research Fellow, Visiting Scholar, and Visiting Young Scholar.
Advanced Research Fellows: Top scholars renowned at home and abroad with a leading role in international academic frontiers;
Visiting Scholars: Senior scholars with outstanding achievements and high standing in the academic field;
Visiting Young Scholars: Promising young scholars under the age of 45 who have achieved outstanding academic accomplishments and are well received in academia at home and abroad in recent years.
Application requirements
Scholars from home and abroad can apply for the IASH Visiting Scholar Program. Our requirements for applicants are as follows:
Candidates should be dedicated to the research of profound knowledge, the pursuit of innovation and the exchange of ideas. They should believe in cultivating both character and competency and cross-disciplinary development, contribute to fostering talents, and advance the cultivation of promising talents and young scholars in fundamental disciplines through the use of innovative and open academic resources.
Candidates should show enthusiasm in their work and proactively communicate and exchange ideas with other visiting scholars as well as SYSU faculty members and students. They should participate actively in academic activities organized by the Institute and help to build a vibrant public academic space for the humanities and social sciences.
Candidate must be available for the on-campus Visiting Scholar Program between late September 2023 and late December 2023.

Application Procedure
1 The 2023 Fall Semester Visiting Scholar Program of IASH is now open for applications. The deadline for application is April 30, 2023 (CST).
2 Application Channel: Visit the IASH official website. (https://iash.sysu.edu.cn). Go to "Home" → "Application for the Visiting Scholar Program". Read the instructions before downloading the application form for the SYSU Visiting Scholar Program and completing the application form. 3 After submitting the application, applicants will receive an email confirming the successful receipt of their application
4 All applications will be reviewed by the IASH Academic Committee. The selection of visiting scholars will be based on an established assessment procedure.
5 Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application via email.
