About the program
The Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities (IASH) of Sun Yat-sen University is a university-level academic research entity focusing on fundamental disciplines of humanities and social sciences. IASH is committed to promoting interdisciplinary research and education, advancing exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad, and facilitating the training of high-level talents of the university.
Through its Visiting Scholar Program, IASH aims to attract established and promising young scholars from all corners of the world. IASH has organized numerous academic activities, including Yat-sen IASH Lecture Series, Yat-sen IASH Forum, Yat-sen IASH Workshop, Yat-sen IASH Honors Program, Yat-sen Kangle Gathering, IASH Reading Group, IASH Tea Talks and IASH Field Work. These activities look into the fundamentals and frontier fields of disciplines, drive robust academic discourse, spur interdisciplinary research and education, and explore pedagogical approaches while pursuing the best pedagogical practices, working together with other academic disciplines to create a conducive environment for the grooming of interdisciplinary talents.
IASH 2025 Fall Semester Visiting Scholar Program is expected to receive 10-12 visiting scholars. IASH will provide visiting scholars with excellent working and living conditions, abundant academic resources, and support for their academic activities.

Types of Visiting Scholars
IASH has three types of visiting scholars, including Advanced Research Fellow, Visiting Scholar, and Visiting Young Scholar.
Advanced Research Fellows: Top scholars renowned at home and abroad with a leading role in international academic frontiers.
Visiting Scholars: Senior scholars with outstanding achievements and high standing in the academic field.
Visiting Young Scholars:Promising young scholars under the age of 45 who have made outstanding academic accomplishments in recent years and are well-received in academia at home and abroad.

Application Requirements
Eligible scholars from home and abroad may apply for the IASH Visiting Scholar Program. Our requirements for applicants are as follows:
Candidates should be dedicated to academics, pursuing innovation and exchange of academic ideas based on the study of advanced studies. They should also recognize the concept of cross-disciplinary development, assist in the training of talents, and advance the cultivation of prominent talents in fundamental disciplines and the growth of young scholars at the university with cutting-edge and open academic resources.
Candidates should exhibit enthusiasm in their work, be willing to engage in dialogue and exchange with other visiting scholars and SYSU faculty members and students, and actively participate in various academic activities organized by IASH to build a vibrant public academic space for humanities and social sciences.
Advanced Research Fellows shall serve in IASH for one or two years from late September 2025, while Visiting Scholars or Visiting Young Scholars shall serve in IASH from late September 2025 to late December 2025.

Application Procedure
IASH 2025 Fall Semester Visiting Scholar Program is now open for applications. The deadline for submitting applications is April 1, 2025 (CST).

3. After submitting their applications, applicants will receive an email acknowledging receipt.
4. All applications will be reviewed by the IASH Academic Committee. The selection of visiting scholars will be based on an established assessment framework.
5. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application via email.
6. IASH reserves the right to the final interpretation of this notice.
